About Sound Healing
Sound Healing is founded in the idea that each different form that matter takes is vibrating at its own specific frequency. This can be witnessed through the eye opening research of scholars such as Hans Jenny, a Swiss engineer and doctor, who dedicated his life to demonstrating with cymatic imagery what happens to matter when you subject it to sound vibrations. Jenny made use of crystal oscillators and an invention of his own called a tonoscope to set plates and membranes vibrating. With the tonoscope, quartz sand was spread onto a black drum membrane 60cm in diameter. the membrane is set into vibrations by singing loudly through a cardboard pipe. the sand then produced complex symetrical forms. These forms he produced took on exquisite patterns that would change as the sound changed. When the OM was toned, the identical image of the Sri Yantra (Buddhist mandala for OM) was magically produced.
Based on Jenny's work, photographer Alexander Lauterwasser captures imagery of water surfaces set into motion by sound sources ranging from pure sine waves to music by Ludwig van Beethoven, Karlheinz Stockhausen, and even overtone singing.
Another researcher, Masaru Emoto, used photographs to provide proof that sound and intention changes the molecular structure of water. Since we are largely made up of crystaline substance (blood, bones, connective tissue.) and water, it stands to reason that there is a clear connection between the sound coming from pure quartz crystal singing bowls and the human body's resonance.

The Many Applications of Sound Healing
Hospitals and research facilities are now using these fairly new tools with their patients recovering from cancer and surgeries with great success. Drumming is being used by corporations for stress relief and team building exercises. Shamanic Drumming is used to induce altered states of consciousness. Sound is also used by psychologists to help with certain learning challenges. Binaural beat frequencies are used for entrainment (much like Shamanic Drumming) to evoke specific states of consciousness. Sleep clinics are also using sound to help those with sleep disorders. Listening to your own root note or frequency enables you to instantly center and ground your awareness in the present moment, allowing you freedom to express your truth.
Doctors and healers as well as musicians are finding this research and the tools it brings to be an exciting field to play in! The results have been nothing short of positive. If nothing else, you will find yourself more relaxed and in an easier frame of mind using sound healing.
